Abstract
Rochmad Haryadi. 2025. Dance as a Medium for Developing Creativity and Motor Skills in Early Childhood: A Literature Study.
This literature study examines the role of dance as a medium for developing creativity and motor skills in early childhood. Dance, as an integrative learning activity, provides opportunities for children to explore movement, express emotions, and develop imaginative abilities through structured and unstructured motor activities. The review highlights how rhythmic movements, body coordination, and expressive gestures in dance contribute to the enhancement of gross and fine motor skills, stimulate sensory integration, and strengthen cognitive–emotional development. The study additionally identifies that dance-based learning encourages creativity by allowing children to experiment with diverse movement patterns, engage in symbolic play, and respond to musical and visual stimuli. These activities help foster originality, flexibility of thought, and problem-solving abilities. Moreover, dance supports social development by promoting cooperation, interaction, and communication within group settings. Findings from various scholarly sources indicate that incorporating dance into early childhood education can significantly enrich learning experiences and create a supportive environment for holistic development. This literature study is expected to serve as a reference for educators, practitioners, and researchers in designing early-childhood learning programs that maximize children’s creative potential and motor development through dance.
