This study explores the integration of critical literacy into English as a Foreign Language (EFL) reading courses in Indonesian higher education. Emphasizing students’ ability to critically analyze, evaluate, and reflect on texts, the study positions critical literacy as a pedagogical approach that fosters social, cultural, and ideological awareness through reading instruction.
Employing a narrative inquiry approach, the research documents an Indonesian lecturer’s experiences and pedagogical practices in designing and implementing critical literacy-oriented EFL reading instruction. The study aims to contribute both conceptually and pedagogically to EFL education in higher education by highlighting the lecturer’s role in cultivating critical and reflective readers.

Komunikasi rekayasa dalam konstruksi merupakan proses penyampaian dan pertukaran informasi teknis secara sistematis melalui berbagai media, seperti gambar teknik, spesifikasi teknis, laporan, dan dokumen kontrak. Proses ini berperan penting dalam menerjemahkan gagasan perencanaan menjadi pekerjaan fisik di lapangan, sekaligus menjadi dasar koordinasi antar disiplin, pengendalian mutu, serta pengambilan keputusan teknis selama pelaksanaan proyek.
Komunikasi rekayasa yang efektif menuntut kejelasan, ketepatan, dan keseragaman informasi agar dapat dipahami secara sama oleh seluruh pemangku kepentingan proyek. Ketidaktepatan atau ketidaksinkronan komunikasi dapat menimbulkan kesalahan pekerjaan, keterlambatan, dan pemborosan sumber daya. Oleh karena itu, penerapan komunikasi rekayasa yang terstruktur dan terstandar menjadi faktor kunci dalam meningkatkan efisiensi, mutu, dan keselamatan dalam proyek konstruksi.

Politeness in language use within the teaching and learning process of Indonesian language is a fundamental aspect that supports effective educational communication between teachers and students. Polite language reflects respect, ethical awareness, and mutual appreciation, while also functioning as a means of character formation and the development of a healthy academic culture. In the classroom context, linguistic politeness is not limited to word choice, but also encompasses intonation, speech structure, and the appropriateness of language use in relation to social roles and communicative situations.
Through Indonesian language instruction, politeness in language is systematically taught and practiced as an integral part of comprehensive language competence. Teachers serve as role models in the use of proper and polite language, while students are guided to communicate effectively, respectfully, and responsibly. Thus, linguistic politeness in the teaching and learning process not only enhances the quality of classroom interaction but also contributes to the development of ethical and socially responsible language behavior in broader social contexts.
ESP Needs-Analysis-Based Syllabus for Islamic Banking Study Program: Key Principles and Model

This article presents an ESP (English for Specific Purposes) syllabus model for an Islamic Banking Study Program grounded in systematic needs analysis. It argues that syllabus design should start from clearly mapped communicative demands of students’ future academic and professional tasks—such as reading Sharia-compliant financial documents, drafting reports, delivering presentations, and handling client-facing interactions—so that learning outcomes align with real workplace discourse and program outcomes.
The proposed model integrates OBE principles by translating needs-analysis findings into measurable learning outcomes, targeted language functions, and authentic task sequences. Core design principles include domain relevance (Islamic finance terminology and genres), skills integration (reading–writing–speaking–listening in workplace scenarios), scaffolding from general to specialized competence, and performance-based assessment through projects and simulations that mirror industry practices.

Communication in the social media era tends to be more superficial, with risks of miscommunication and over-communication. These changes also impact emotional closeness, social norms, and communication ethics, while creating the phenomenon of social media addiction, which hinders effective communication in real life.
Overall, despite its advantages, the shift in face-to-face communication requires attention to ensure that interpersonal relationships remain meaningful and of high quality.
